Vance W. Amory International Airport - Nevis, West Indies. Sounds impressive doesn't it! Well that is the name of the new Nevis airport. The old airport was just called Newcastle Airport...as it was located in Newcastle, Nevis. The old airport, seen above, may not have been much to look at it, but it was efficient, friendly, and had lots of Caribbean charm.
The new Nevis airport is a modern blight on the island. Expensive drinks and food, compared to Aunt' Millie's Chicken and Rum stand that used to be outside. You now have to pay for
parking to pay for the airport. In the old days we just parked our car anywhere and there was no fee. One time I flew to Antigua overnight and just left my car there with the keys under the seat, and when I cam
back I found the gas tank had been filled up, and here was a case of Heineken on the front seat. My friend Shabba new I was off-island and just borrowed the car for 24 hours. The beer and gas were his way of
saying thanks. Ah yes....the good old days. |
